This is a Wiki aimed at sharing Best Practice regarding digitisation, in Higher Education.
The initial focus of the resource will be on digitisation under the CLA Scanning and Photocopying Licence (which is to say, scanning from print, in UK Higher Education Institutions) - however, there is scope for expanding this remit, in particular to other forms of digitisation (audio, video, images and so on) and beyond the realms of the UK.
This resource is for all digitisation practitioners. It was created by Ned Potter, formerly Digitisation Coordinator at the University of Leeds Library, and is open to contributions from all in the field. If you would like to get involved with the planning, running and maintenance of the Wiki, please send him an email - or if you wish to edit or add to existing entries, just register for the Wiki and, once you've been approved, go for it!
It is not yet fully populated with articles, but more are being added all the time. If there's a topic you'd like to see written about, just request it via the article suggestions page.
The Content is currently divided into categories, all relating to the lifecycle of digitising under the CLA Scanning Licence. Click the link to go to the Content Homepage - once you have all the information you need from the page you are currently on, it may be best to bookmark the Content Homepage rather than this one, as you can more easily navigate to articles from there.
The idea is that this site should act as a one-stop shop for information about digitising under the CLA Licence. If you feel you have knowledge in this area, please feel free to add your thoughts to the articles. Anyone can view this wiki, but you'll need to sign up for a pbworks account in order to edit it.
NB: Once you've created an article, please link to it from the relevant category pages so people can easily see what is available. So for example, if you write something about accessing digitised readings via the VLE, link it to from the Delivery homepage.
The articles most often contain a general introduction, and then the experiences of specific HEIs or practitioners. In that respect this site doesn't work quite like wikipedia, where multiple people contribute to one anonymous article - it is more a case of adding to the existing information on any given subject, from your own perspective.
This site uses WYSIWYG editing, so it works pretty much like Microsoft Word - all the formatting tools should look familiar. If you wish to edit a page, once you've reigstered just click the 'Edit' tab at the top left and add your thoughts, or click Create Page, top right, if you want to start something from scratch.
It is worth noting that if there already exists best practice advice on any aspect of digitisation, you don't need to recreate the whole thing here. Just create the page on the given subject, and provide a link to the existing resource, whatever that may be, with a little bit of information about it.
